Shipments of 4G devices will reach over 1 million by March 2012
Digitimes stated in its web site on Thursday that some notable mobile phone makers such as Samsung and HTC are targeting over a million 4G mobile phone shipments by March and thereafter shipments will likely to increase to reach 5-10 million units in the second quarter of 2012. Many suppliers such as Qualcomm, Broadcom, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), ASE and Silicon Precision Industries (SPIL) will be benefiting from the large orders.
The move is as a reaction to a new business environment in which international chip providers believe that 4G mobile phones would be aggressively promoted by telecommunication firms in North America and Europe during 2012.
4G smartphones will be the norm in 2012 especially in North America and Europe and this has been the hopes of the industry for 2012 and beyond. TSMC has been supplying 4G devices to Qualcomm and Broadcom since the first-quarter of 2012.
Two other firms, ASE and SPIL have predicted that the second quarter of 2012 will see increased revenues for both companies.
Sources from the industry noted that the sudden surge of demands for 4G devices has been influenced by the urge of gaining market share before Apple’s next iPhone product.
Apple’s iPad 3 will be unveiled in a few days time on March 7th, and thereafter will be shipped all over the world. Apple’s influence in the 4G market has been great even before it unveils its next generation device. We are able to see big players in the industry such as Samsung and HTC to be on field to harvest the yields even before the big player is awake.
