Wong remarked that Europe will remain Acer’s key market for 2012, adding that the company will still benefit from its channel resources locally. Wong previously stressed that Acer is looking to restore its market share in Europe to 25-28% by the end of 2012 from the current 22%.
Industry sources noted that Acer is currently working on lowering its inventory level so that it will be able to embrace a more flexible and efficient product pricing as well as more realistic marketing strategies.
Digitimes states in its website, “In related news, Acer has announced non-consolidated revenues of NT$37.54 billion (US$1.27 billion) for February 2012, up 38% on month. Non-consolidated sales grew 5.4% from a year earlier to total NT$64.74 billion in the January-February period.”
Meanwhile, Acer’s main ODM (Original Device Manufacturer) partner Compal Electronics has reported a more than 30% sequential rise in consolidated sales for February 2012. Its notebook shipments climbed 38% on month to 2.9 million units in February. (Source)
In Europe Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported, citing Oliver Ahrens, who heads the company’s European business that Acer is aiming for 25 percent to 28 percent market shares in Europe by the end of 2013 and not 2012 as reported above. The latest figure will be up from 13 percent currently. Currently, Acer has a 16.5 percent market share in Europe.
Notebooks will remain the vanguard of the company’s product line, but according to Ahrens tablets could account for 10 percent to 15 percent of its business in the future, up from 6 percent to 8 percent today, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported.
