Smartphone and tablet manufacturers were torn between two gargantuan tasks – updating their existing devices to the latest Android operating system, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and at the same time developing new devices compatible with Android 4.0. Many retailers were quick to announce that they will be working on the updates gradually in spite of the probably launch of Android 5.0 somewhere in May or June of this year.
Vendors will definitely focus on developing new devices before working on updates for their previous models; this is indeed bad news for owners of existing devices and will add extra time on the tasks that have been planned for the upgrades.
Some retailers had already begun to offer upgrades for their existing devices, Asustek’s Eee Pad Transformer (first-generation) is already available for update to Android 4.0.3 and similarly Samsung has completed updating its Galaxy S 2 i9100 and will work on the updates for the Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Note.
On the other hand, Sony also announced that they have completed updates for their Tablet P series while the Tablet S series will receive their upgrades by the end of April. The new updates will feature an enhanced user interface as well as new functions and of course the easy multitasking, rich notifications, customizable home screens, resizable widgets, and deep interactivity and not to forget it also adds powerful new ways of communicating and sharing.
