Apple might launch iPad 3 Mini in third quarter of 2012
Rumor mill again emerged with reports that a mini version of Apple’s latest iPad (commonly known as the iPad 3) will be launched in the third quarter of 2012. The device might come in a 7.1-inch screen size according to Devindra Hardawar from Venturebeat, a statement I directly qouted from itproportal.
Harawar also claimed that the iPad 3 could also be called as the iPad HD instead of the popular iPad 3, however, he could not specify his source but insisted that his source is reliable.
Itproportal states that while the larger iPad 3 or HD would sport an amazing retina display with 2,048 X 1,536 pixels, the smaller iPad 3 mini could come up with a 7.1-inch screen rather than 7.85 as reported by Digitimes earlier. Hardawar considers the 7.85-inch screen to be too close to the 9.7-inch model to make any difference but the 7.1-inch model is close enough to the 7-inch to make an impression and not to compete with its big brothers, the larger iPads. According to itproportal, the source did not mention about the price tag of the mini iPad or for that matter whether it will be sold as an iPad 2 Mini or iPad 3 Mini. There was also no details on when the device will be available in the market.
The report about Apple to launch a smaller version of the iPad was first echoed by a Japanese website Macotakara. A Taiwan-based Economic Daily News quoting directly from Macotakara’s reports stated that AU Optronics and LG Display will supply the screen (a 7.85-inch part) as well as other retailers such as Radiant Opto-Electronics and Forhouse to supply for the vital components of backlit module and Renesas Electronics to provide the driver integrated circuit and finally Toshiba to supply NAND flash memory.
According to itproportal, an analyst, who remained anonymous, told Cnet last year that Apple as “showing increasing interest in making a small tablet”.
