Gigabyte 3x USB Power Boost enables a quick charge for the new iPad
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd., a Taiwan-based manufacturer of computer hardware, is introducing its On/Off Charge technology, which aims to enable fast charging on Apple’s products including the new iPad and previous Apple devices.
The On/Off Charge technology allows iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch to draw more current through a USB connection from PCs with Gigabyte motherboards than standard USB port is able to provide.

Many mobile devices can be charged directly via desktop / laptop PC USB ports as long as the device is connected to a power source. However, in the case of Apple’s devices, this is not the case. Apple products such as the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch only draw a mere 0.5A charge and full charging can sometime takes up to 3 hours. The benefit of Gigabyte’s ON/Of Charge is that the charging time can be reduced up to 40 per cent.
The On/Off Charge front panel connector includes a dedicated controller to allow the computer to detect the current required by the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.The device is able to dictate what amount of current is needed so there will be no threat of overcharging.
