iPhone 5 is expected to be unveiled in October 2012

Enough of the agitation over the rumors surrounding the iPad3, let’s flip over to another stage of Apple’s upcoming device – rumors about the iPhone 5, expected to be launched later this year.

Apple made a sudden change of the launch schedule last year by announcing the iPhone 4S in autumn instead of the usual summer release in June or July. The move is perhaps sales motivated because the highly anticipated iPhone 4S was launched during the holiday season where sales are expected to be high. This proved to be a winning strategy as the latest sales report revealed.

Even Apple officials were surprised by the sales success”, reports Macotakara. Apple have sold 37 million iPhones in December 2011, the highest sales volume for Apple’s smartphones.

The iPhone 5 is reported to be a completely revamped model and not as a minor upgrade as we witnessed between the iPhone 4 and 4S.  Expect a quad-core processor and perhaps NFC technology and 4G as well. 9to5mac website claimed that the device would probably be powered by Qualcomm’s new chip, the Gobi 4G LTE wireless baseband modems – MDM9615 and MDM9215. The chip is reported to work side by side with Qualcomm’s dual and quad-core Snapdragon processors.
