Dell to launch XPS 13 ultrabook for Taiwanese market
Dell, Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL) an American multinational computer technology corporation has announced that it has unveiled its 13.3-inch XPS 13 ultrabook for the Taiwanese market. The XPS 13 is also the first ultrabook made by Quanta Computer, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of notebook computers and other electronic hardware.
What is interesting in this new ultrabook from Dell is that it features a chassis made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic and will sell at NT$49,900 (US$1,692) but according to Engadget, The US version of the XPS 13 starts from US$999 for the entry level which sports Intel’s second-generation Core i5-2467M processor and HD 3000 graphics, along with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. The more expensive version features a Core i7-2637M Intel second-generation processor as well as a 256GB Solid State Drive, priced at US$1,499.
Other features include the following:
- Display: Edge-to-edge Corning® Gorilla® Glass (A tough yet brilliant 13.3″ screen in a compact form similar to an 11″ laptop)
- Smart Detail: Backlit keyboard & glass touchpad – Type with ease, even in dim light. Navigate intuitively via integrated button touchpad with gesture support.
- Carbon Fibre: Carbon fiber base – Carbon fiber’s high strength-to-weight ratio makes the XPS 13 remarkably light.
- Cool Touch: Cooler to the touch – The carbon fiber base feels cooler, so you do, too.
- Battery life up to 8 hours, 45 minutes.
- SSD + Intel ® Rapid Start technology
- Aluminium: Machined aluminum – Precision-cut aluminum lid is as durable as it is stunning.
- Thin: 6mm at its thinnest – Specifically engineered to create the ultimate in portability.

Meanwhile, on other unrelated news, Compal Electronics, a Taiwanese original design manufacturer (ODM), handling the production of notebook computers, monitors, and televisions will manufacture 14- and 15-inch ultrabooks for Dell as well as four models for Hewlett-Packard (HP), according to analysts.
