Samsung Galaxy Young for those young at heart
Samsung announced recently that it will be unveiling its Galaxy Young also known as Samsung S5360 – Galaxy Y series of mobile phones in the last quarter of the year. This morning when I went through my favorite local newspaper, a large advertisement caught my eyes – there it was Samsung Galaxy Y, taking the whole page right in the middle of the paper.
I am personally interested in this phone mainly due to its price, which is sold in Sabah (North Borneo) at RM499 (USD159), impressive! I am going to surf in and out of the internet to look for a good review, just in case I might be interested to buy one in the near future. So, sit back and let me give the review stage by stage…
Design:
Well, its’ candy bar like design will definitely suit both gender. The silver black casing adds sophistication and the textures somewhat enhances the quality of plastic material. It also protects the back from scratches.

Performance and Display:
It has a small 3 inch capacitive TFT Display at 240X320 pixels (do not compare with the better displays of the Galaxy Ace or Mini). Galaxy Y utilizes an 832 MHz processor, which is more than capable to power the phone, but loading your phone with too many apps, then you may find it taking sometimes to load up.
Applications:
To connect to the Android Marketplace (over 300,00 apps), you only need to download your applications utilizing the WiFi connection in your phone. Direct connection to the internet might be a bit expensive depending on the charges of your service provider.
Battery:
This is the first drawn down of this phone, battery life only last for a day if you are busy playing games or browsing the internet or maybe making a lot of calls or text messages. You can solve this problem by killing off unwanted applications running at the background. I remember that my Android powered SE Xperia X10 has the same problem with its battery. I spent hours searching and disabling unwated running application then wallaa… it worked, now battery life has improved to 2-3 days.
Audio:
Another drawback – audio is just so and so even when the volume is at the max level. But when the earphone is plugged in then you begin to feel the difference – the 5.1 surrounds support.
Camera
The biggest draw down is perhaps the camera – with a mere 2.0 megapixels and 15fps video recording. This is however depending on what you need, don’t expect too much for a phone under the RM500 mark. The quality of the 2.0 MP camera is still good enough for posting on social network sites but not for printing, they are just too fuzzy.
Ergonomics:
For the ladies, this phone is just fine but for the guys with big hands you have to spend sometimes to get used to it. The virtual keyboard is also small and it might be a difficult to type in, but a bit of practice then I believe you will get the hang of it.

Price:
Currently priced at RM499. It is cheap but the biggest drawback to me is the camera. Try to compare it with other brand such as Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro with a 5.0 MP camera available at only RM450. On the whole however, the choice is yours – it’s your money after all.

Low volume is a common complaint about this phone. There is an app you can get called Voodoo Control Plus. It controls Voodoo sound for Galaxy S. another app you can try is Volume . There are other “hacks” you can do to increase the sound level, but these aren`t recommended as they can void the warranty and destroy the phone if you don`t know what you are doing.

cik chenttaa: maybe your bluetooth punya settings..check whether “dicoverable” ada kena check. Wireless & network =>bluettoth settings=> check out “discoverable”. Hope this help.

You should keep to your S2, it is way better than the Galaxy Young. Yours is a high end phone my friend..
