Tech Monday - The Sony Ericsson Cedar and NOKIA C3 | gunsirit tech

I have always been a fan of budget phones. It has become a passion of mine since I can’t really afford those fancy, top of the shelf, high end phones. So, if you in the same boat with me and looking forward for a cheaper alternatives of the much luxurious phones, here are your choices – introducing Sony Ericsson’s Cedar and Nokia C3. These two budget phones have almost identical RRP (Recommended retail price) but do they have similar capabilities?
O.K, let’s be frank here, so what do you really want from a cell phone? To me, at least for my personal requirement, the most important characteristics that a phone has (apart from the calling and texting) are 3G connectivity, WIFI and Social Networking plug-ins. I need these to stay connected either in blogging activities or Fackbook.
So, let us delve into Sony Ericsson’s new budget baby, the Cedar.

• It has 3G HSDPA
• East access to e-mail and social networking
• Sony’s music quality
Downs:
• No WIFI

Now, let’s move to NOKIA C3

The Nokia C3 is the first of three new messaging devices to break cover today. It’s also the first Series 40 device to come sporting a full QWERTY keyboard, but that’s not the only trick up its slender sleeve.
Designed to put messaging and social networking in the palm of your hand this tiny tyke comes packing access to your favourite Instant Messaging, social networking and email accounts, all courtesy of Nokia Messaging. Read on after the jump to find out what else is in store. Not content with just being a social butterfly the C3 also boasts Wi-Fi connectivity, a two-megapixel camera, 2.4-inch screen and support for up to 8GB of storage on a microSD card.

Here is my review of the C3:

Ups:
• It’s cheap, at RRP RM 425 – 440
RM 380 – 395 (AP)
• full QWERTY keyboard
• WIFI
• East access to e-mail and social networking

Downs:
• No 3G, only GPRS and EDGE
• 2 MP camera

My recommendation:
I would go for the Cedar. It is cheaper by RM140. I don’t really need WIFI since the connection in my office is being blocked so meticulously that you would not be able to access anything of interest. With 3G, you will be connected while on the move, making use of DIGI’s RM2 a day mobile internet, of course. The downside is, it has only been launched and I am not sure if it is available on the market now, but the wait is worth it. As long as it is cheap, I’ll grab it.
