Android platform is vulnerable to attacks
According to researches, mobile phone vendors are falling short on providing adequate security protections and software updates to their devices.
According to a security report from a UK-based mobiole security firm, MWR InfoSecurity, Android-based smartphones are particularly at risks because vendors did not equip their devices with adequate protections and contain security flaws, which could be targeted by attackers for malware and fraud operations.
According to the firm’s managing director Ian Shaw, vendors must be responsible to improve and enhance the built-in protections that are in the device before shipping them to worldwide markets.
“Manufacturers must spend more time looking to see how they can safeguard users,” Shaw said.
“The problem is that many users just don’t realise how vulnerable they actually are,” he added.
Infections through Malwares have been the biggest problem for the Android platform. The loosely controlled Android market is all but a safe site for software download. Cyber criminals have been taking advantage of it by uploading malicious tools and trojan applications.
MWR InfoSecurity reported that it has identified several flaws in the Android platform and has contacted several handset manufacturers such as Samsung to come to a solution such as software patches for their smartphones and tablets.
The security firm acknowledges that users are being left vulnerable for infections on their devices and with the rise of IT consumerization, companies are also left vulnerable to such attacks.
When larger corporation and users realize the importance of having a better security protection for their devices, they will definitely shun models that do not offer at least the basic security assurance, therefore manufacturers who are late to implement these features will definitely be left behind.
