Our next story is definitely a classic. It has been around for years as it was told somewhere in the early 1980s. Probably, you may have heard about it, but let us all have another refresher.

It was a story about a group of villagers from a remote part of Sabah, ironically they were from my own hometown – Tambunan. Those days, transportation was mainly by pickup trucks.
Very few mini vans were around. Pickups are still being used today in other parts of Sabah, especially in Kudat, Kota Marudu and Kota Belud. The highway from Kota Kinabalu to Tambunan that you see today was originally gravel and dirt road which is extremely difficult to drive through during the rainy season.

The early 80′s also saw a rapid development in the state, particularly in Kota Kinabalu and one of those landmark was the BFO Kilan cinema – brand new, air-conditioned and magnificent. Even folks from the remote areas have heard about it.
So, this group of people who just received their dividends (grant from the government) of at least RM100 each wished to spend their money in Kota Kinabalu and one of their many stops will be at the BFO Kilan cinema. Upon, arriving at the cinema, the leader Kurusong, asked a younger member of the group, Gutuk to check on the title of the film which is currently on screening. Gutuk who had never been to Kota Kinabalu in his life time hesitated, but upon being given some encouragement, swiftly went up to the stairs and to the film title boards. Satisfied with what he had seen, ran straight to the group who were waiting inside the pickup truck.
Kurusong asked him, “Nunu di ngaran do wayang baino?” (“What is the title of the film on screen today?”). Gutuk replied, “Uka ma, nga COMING SOON ka di pointulis hilo” (“I’m not sure, but it was written COMING SOON”)
