Intel launches Xeon E5-2600 server processors

Digitimes reported on Thursday that Intel has launched its latest and most innovative Xeon E5-2600 series of server processors. Vendors and manufacturers such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Asustek, Acer and Quanta Computer are expected to use the processors in their server computers and will be available for sale soon. Meanwhile, Intel is also in a position to launch yet another product – new server platform Carlow which will feature Xeon E3-1200 series processors (Ivy Bridge-H2) in the second quarter.

Digitimes stated in its web site, “The E5-2600 series processors include eight-core E5-2690, six-core E5-2667, quad-core E5-2643 and dual-core E5-2637 with each processor supporting up to 768GB of system memory. The processors are priced from US$198-2,050, while Intel has also launched three Xeon E5-1600 series processors priced from US$284-1,440.”

It was also reported that Intel, perhaps in the second quarter of this year, will launch its next-generation Itanium processors codenamed Poulson as well as Roomley-EN platform, which is a combination of Xeon E5-2400 series with C600 chipsets. There will be nine Xeon E5-2400 processors including eight-core E5-2450L, six-core E5-2440 and quad-core E5-2407, priced between US$192-1,440.

The Carlow platform is essentially a combination of Xeon E3-1200v2 series of processor with the C216 chipset and would target mainly on workstation applications. There will be 11 processors under the Xeon E3-1200v2 series including quad-core Xeon E3-1290v2 and Dual E3-1220Lv2, priced between US$189-884.
