RIM says BlackBerry 10 OS would not work on current BlackBerry smartphones
Based on a report by The INQUIRER, Research in Motion (RIM) has confirmed that all its current BlackBerry devices couldn’t be upgraded to RIM’s latest OS, BlackBerry 10 OS. According to an interview conducted by the INQUIRER with Vivek Bhardwaj, the head of software portfolio at RIM, Bhardwaj stated, “Our currently Blackberry line of smartphones will still remain based on our current BlackBerry operating system.”
The BlackBerry 10 OS is reported to be designed specifically for the next generation BlackBerry smartphones and sadly will not run on the current BlackBerry 7 OS or earlier devices.
This is certainly an unwelcome news from RIM since other players in the market such as Apple’s iOS, Windows Phone and Google’s Android new OS will still work on some if not all older devices. Therefore, for potential BlackBerry customers, it might be wise not to buy any RIM Smartphone until the Blackberry 10 devices arrive.
Good news to PlayBook owners though, according to Bhardwaj, “The Playbook will continue to progress and evolve and lead the road towards Blackberry 10.” Later on, RIM confirmed this with a statement, “Blackberry 10 is being designed for both next generation Blackberry smartphones, as well as for the Blackberry Playbook. Owners of Blackberry Playbook today will be able to update their tablet to the BlackBerry 10 OS via a free software update once the software is generally available.”

Oh my God will RIM ever get things right. I just bought a new BB running OS7 and now to be informed that it will not run OS10 – Almost every Apple iPhone can do this. Why does RIM get it so wrong. I am moving back to iPhone, the cost of maintaining my updated handsets is far to great. No sooner have I bought one handset to match the new OS and another one comes out.
Ok, my Iphone contract will expire this coming Jun, by that time I have plenty of device to choose.
But I prefer to choose ethir Blackberry or Android. Basiclly for business.
