Sony is to launch Sony Xperia Sola in second quarter
Sony Corporation (TYO: 6758, NYSE: SNE), a Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation recently launched its latest Xperia line of Android smartphone, dubbed as the Sony Xperia Sola. It sports an amazing screen interface for ease of web navigation, a high-resolution Reality Display and also feature a near-field communications (NFC) capabilities.
The Xperia Sola will be available in the second quarter of the year. This new device from Sony is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread initially but will be upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
One amazing feature of the smartphone is a new “floating touch” user interface, specifically designed for easy browsing of the net. The Xperia Sola is the first smartphone by the Japanese company to sport such an amazing interface.
The ‘floating touch’ is astounding because it allows a user to simply highlight the link they want and to move their finger just above the screen (hovering) acting like a mouse pointer without even touching the screen. Once you have highlighted your link, a quick tap will activate it.
Another important feature of the Xperia Sola is NFC capabilities. NFC is usually used for contactless payment applications such as the electronic wallet. The Xperia Sola also supports NFC pairing whereby two users can touch their handsets together to setup a communications link.
The device is also equipped with a pair of SmartTags, they are basically NFC-compatible key fobs than can perform specific tasks set by the user. For example, when in the office, you can program your phone to automatically set your phone into silent mode or direct you to your email and when in your car, you can set the tag to automatically divert calls to your voicemail. The option is limitless.
Some other important features of the Sola are as follow:
- 3.7-inch Reality Display screen with 852 X 480 pixels with Sony’s Mobile Bravia TV technology
- Weight: 107g
- Camera: 5-megapixel capable of recording video at 720p.
- Internal memory: 8GB expandable via microSD card
- Supports GPS, Wi-Fi and HSDPA

I’ve been anticipating new SE models sbb mo tukar hp kunun. My SE Xperia Mini Pro is great but I’m bored with it already. Sola seems nice but I hope it will come with a QWERTY keypad like the Mini Pro because I need it so badly!
Hi Angel,
I think the Xperia sola is not equipped with QWERTY keyboard anymore. It is a full touch keyboard macam itu iphone. Kalau mau QWERTY keyboard kana ambil la BlackBerry..hehehe
Although the technology is great, I really wonder how useful it is. Sony could have invested its time on developing something better and useful. -
