Sony unveils Sony Xperia Ion at CES 2012
The Sony mobile phone company, formerly known as Sony Ericsson launched the Sony Xperia Ion, an Android based LTE smart phone at the International Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas. This device is exciting because it is the first smart phone to use the Sony brand rather than Sony Ericsson. It is also the first Sony device to offer 4G LTE.
Sony actually has a lot to focus on this new device , the Xperia Ion comes with HD 4.6-inch screen and 1,280 x 720 pixel resolution. It utilizes Sony’s mobile version of the Bravia engine. Unfortunately, this device did not come with the latest Android OS the Android 4.0 IceCream Sandwich, According to a report it is instead loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Nonetheless, the Xperia Ion sports a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and a 16GB of onboard storage. Other features are a TV Launcher interface and HDMI-out, it is also super thin in shape.
Xperia Ion is the first device using two HD cameras – at the back of the device is a 12MP main camera with LED flash and the ability to record video in HD quality plus other features such as smile and face detection in panoramic mode. The secondary camera is also capable of video recording at 720p.
With Xperia Ion’s TV launcher, you can send SMS, play music, view pictures from your device through your favorite Television. According to Sony you can even control the smart phone using a remote control.
Since the Xperia Ion is a Playstation-certified device, you can download and play your favorite Playstation games on your Xperia Ion device.
Currently, no information on price or launch date has been announced by Sony so far. It is hoped that we will see them in the Malaysian market in the first quarter of this year.
