The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade is now available for the Acer Iconia Tabs series
The Acer Iconia Tab range of tablet will get an upgrade of the most talked about Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, states the Taiwanese Hardware vendor, Acer.
Based on a press release, Acer states, “The Iconia Tab A200, A500 and A100 both the US and UK markets will all get the ICS upgrades.” Worldwide upgrade is also available soon.
No confirmation by Acer the date of the UK and worldwide upgrades but the A500 has now being offered as the first device available for upgrade and soon to be followed by the A100 in April.
“The many enhancements in Android 4.0 OS complement the sleek, powerful and well-designed Acer Iconia Tab tablets to give customers an all-around first-rate experience,” Paul Tayar, diector of product marketing at Acer states.”Customers will experience greater entertainment and productivity with the new capabilities and features on their tablets.” He added.
Acer claimed that the update will bring along users exceptional features like its “highly-custiomisable” Acer Ring combined with a better weather widget and access to favorite apps when the device is locked. An Acer Ring is basically an application which will make it easier for users to access key tablet applications and also to easily take and post pictures or write status updates on social networks.
Other notable additions include much improved performance, faster browsing and navigation, enhanced graphical effect and of course better management. The camera apps has been significantly improved by adding features such as better zoom and ability to take still images while recording a video.
In the US the Iconia Tab is the cheapest tablet yet. A tech website cnet.com states, “The Acer Iconia Tab A200 has the lowest price yet of any post Honeycomb 10-inch tablet. It also has expandable memory options, a full USB port, a well-designed, grippy backside, and is upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). While running Honeycomb we saw poor Wi-Fi performance, but performance greatly improved when we upgraded to ICS.”
The Iconia Tab A200 is sold in the US for $330 (RM1004) for the 8GB version and $350 (RM1065) for 16GB. In Malaysia however, a quick check on an ebay-style website, Lelong.com.my revealed a price of RM1299 for the Acer Iconia A200 16GB but you might be able to strike a better deal if you shop around.
A check on Acer’s Malaysia website states a price tag of RM1399 for the Acer Iconia Tab A500 with features below:

The A500 seems to be more attractive with even better specifications, add another RM100 then the A500 tab is yours but you may have to wait for a while for the ICS OS upgrade becomes available in Malaysia.
