Vendors of Mini Tablet PCs are worried if Apple launches its New iPad Mini
Based on an earlier report made my Digitimes as regards to Apple launching a 7.85-inch iPad (iPad mini) in the third quarter of 2012, other vendors have begun to feel the competitive pressure.
Samsung Electronics has already announced plans to launch its second-generation Galaxy Tab (Samsung Galaxy Tab 2) with the Wi-Fi version purportedly to be priced at US$450 and the 3G version at US$550. Meanwhile, Asustek has already launched its Eee Pad MeMO 171 with a price tag of NT$17,900 or US$608. Asustek is also planning to manufacture another 7-inch tablet PC dubbed as MeMO 370T which will feature a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and would be available with a low price of US$249, a move that will pose a serious challenge to Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
Google with cooperation from Asustek has been rumored to be launching a 7-inch tablet PC priced at a mere US$199, but some sources speculated that the device is not more than a white-box MeMO 370T; nonetheless, nothing is being confirmed right now and both parties declined to comment further on the matter.
Digitimes reported that since Apple has yet to enter the 7-inch tablet PC market, non-Apple or non-iOS tablet PC vendors may still be able to survive, however since Google and Apple through its rumored new iPad Mini tablet are reportedly have unveiled plans to join the mini tablet PC market in the near future therefore non-Apple vendors may have to deal with a bleak future in this market.
