First batch of Intel Ivy Bridge powered ultrabooks to be released by May
According to Digitimes, Intel will eventually launch its latest processor, the Ivy Bridge processors by the end of April 2012. It also reported that notebook vendors are now competing vigorously to get the first supply of the processors.
Shipments of the Ivy Bridge processors which were originally reported to be postponed for eight weeks has now been rebuffed by Intel by releasing a statement that the company will only postpone the shipments for a few weeks and production is currently on schedule.
Sources cited by Digitimes reported that Intel is increasing capacity deployment for the Ivy Bridge processor specifically for the ultrabooks and smartphone platforms and supply of high-end processors for the more traditional desktop and notebook segments.
Vendors are now actively placing orders for the Ivy Bridge processors and some speculate that the second-generation ultrabooks could as well be released as early as May with expected price drop to around US$799-899.
Sources within Digitimes also projected that the total consumer shipments of ultrabook will account for about 15-20% which will eventually increase to 40% by mid 2012 and to surpass 50% by the end of 2012.
Specification and price of ultrabooks powered by the new Ivy Bridge processor that will be officially launched by Intel at the end of April is as follow:
- dual-core i7-2677M at 1.8GHz (US$317)
